About Ambah

Ambah is a city located in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh. It belongs to Chambal division and is around 33 kms to the east of district headquarters of Morena. There are 169 villages and 56 panchayats in the city. A few important tourist destinations near Ambah are Agra, Gwalior, Bharatpur, Fatehpur Sikri and Sonagir. Mainly a rural town, the main business here is selling daily needs household items.
 
With an average elevation of 528 feet or 161 meters, Ambah is located at 26.71°N and 78.23°E. River Chambah flows very near to the city to form border between MP and UP & MP and Rajasthan. The city is well connected by rail and road. Morena is the nearest railway station. The city is located on State Highway No. 2 at the midpoint of Morena and Bhind. There are frequent buses to the city ensuring a convenient travel. The city has a population of 258689 per census of 2011, mails constituting 55% and females 46%. The city also focuses a lot on education. The city is very hot in summer, with the highest temperature climbing to 47 °C.

History of Ambah

The city was formerly known as Ambrish Nagar. It is learnt that in 11th century, Ambrish - a Brahman, used to be the king of this dynasty, thereby the city taking its nickname. The city is famous for ancient 'Banjara Kua' that is known to be built overnight. Also the famous Lord Shiva temple Kakanmath is located in Ambah, which has a lot of archaeological importance.

Culture of Ambah

Primarily a Hindu dominant town, Jainism and Islam are also prominent to some extent in Ambah. There are many religious places in the city. Few such places of religious interest include Mahatma Lochandas Mandir, Jayeshwar Mahadev Mandir, ManshaPoorn Hanumaan Mandir, Heeron wali mata and Badi Masjid. The city is quite diverse culturally and religiously. Jayeshwar Mahadev Mela, organized every year in February - March before the festival of Holi is one of the popular public gatherings that is enjoyed by people from different parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Tourism of Ambah

Visiting Ambah gives anyone an opportunity to explore its rich cultural heritage. There are different places of historical significance like 'Banjara Kua' and 'Kakanmath' that people love to visit. The Kakanmath temple dates back to 11th century and has been classified as Monument of National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India. The temple stands on an ornate base and has two large lion statues at the entrance. There are many other temples in the city that are worth visiting.
